A little bit about me. I am a charter member of ODACA, belong to the Pioneer Doll Club, UFDC, Doll Costumer’s Guild,
Sew What? and a miniature club in Sacramento, CA. I currently hold office in the two local clubs and served several terms
in various offices of ODACA. I have been collecting most of my life and have the first doll ever given to me. I developed
one of the earliest slide programs on sculpting basic dolls and have taught many workshops. I professionally restored bisque,
porcelain and composition for more than 25 years before retiring to concentrate on making and dressing dolls.
I like
to create special dolls as souvenirs, and also to prepare and present workshops, where the students make or finish a project.
There are always several dolls in the works. I am mostly self taught; although I majored in art in school, have a "DDT" (Doctor
of Doll Technology) from Lifetime Career Schools, and have taken seminars with noted teachers. I have been married to a super
guy for over 40 years, and we have two sons. We like to travel and attend the national doll conventions each year and most
regional conferences.
I was the youngest artist, 29 at the time I designed him, to complete a UFDC National Souvenir
doll. It was for Denver in 1978. (No fair doing the math!! I'm still 29.) It took me three years after it was approved and
I personally made 1450 heads; and pairs of arms and legs. I boxed them with a pattern for the body and many clothing variations.
(Vera Bryant changed the body pattern and it was much better; so we used her body and my clothes patterns.) The heads were
given at the banquet and the rest of the doll was given at the brunch. (In those days, we had a banquet on Saturday and brunch
on Sunday. Sure glad that has changed!) I also designed 36 dolls for the Laseg Import Company and they sold about 50,000 of
them in the gift market. I have done Regional souvenir dolls and quite a few luncheon souvenirs. I think Glenda is one of
my favorites, certainly one of the most challenging so far. The companions, which consisted of the rest of the Wizard of Oz
characters, were also a lot of fun. I had intended to use stock molds, but one thing led to another and we ended up with all
original designs.
